According to an announcement dated June 30, 2020, Cardano (ADA) protocol founding member EMURGO has joined forces with leading blockchain-based travel booking platform Travala.com to enable users to pay for their travels with ADA altcoin.

Travala.com Now Accepting ADA

EMURGO, a global blockchain solutions provider has inked a deal with online travel agency Travala.com to make it possible for travelers to seamlessly book hotels and travel accommodations across the world using Cardano’s native digital token ADA.

The partnership further offers 10% cashback to all Cardano enthusiasts who make hotel bookings using ADA until July 31.

The alliance between the two entities is a step forward toward wider adoption of ADA at a time when economies the world over are steadily lifting their travel restrictions and welcoming tourists.

Notably, Travala.com currently offers over 2,000,000 bookable properties across 90,000 worldwide destinations in 230 countries and territories with as high as 40% discount compared to mainstream travel booking platforms.

Commenting on the development, Ken Kodama, CEO, EMURGO, said:

As global travel begins to gradually resume, EMURGO is excited to partner with Travala.com to bring functional utility to Cardano ADA users. Being able to book flights, hotels, and other travel accommodations with ADA at over 2 million properties in 90,000 international destinations demonstrates EMURGO’s focus to drive real-world Cardano adoption.

It is worthy of note that in the last twelve months, close to 60% of all bookings on Travala.com have been paid in cryptocurrencies. U.S., Thailand, and Australia have been the most popular travel destinations among tourists who made payments with cryptocurrencies, the announcement reads.

Crypto Adoption in the Travel Industry

In recent years, the adoption of cryptocurrencies has witnessed upward traction across various industries such as finance, law, real estate, supply chain management, and travel, among others.

For instance, last year in July, leading European airline – Norwegian Air Shuttle – had announced that it would soon begin accepting Bitcoin (BTC) as customer payments.

On a similar note, BTCManager reported in November 2019 that Bitcoin-based payments app Fold had added support for Airbnb, enabling customers to earn a 3% cashback in BTC when they book Airbnb accommodation through the Fold app.
