Santa Monica Studios is giving away free God of War DLC to mark the festive season.

Before you get carried away with notions of unannounced new playable content hitting 2017’s smash hit action-adventure, note that it’s sadly not as grandiose as it first appears.

Free God of War DLC

Instead of a new expansion that furthers Atreus and Kratos’ adventure (now that would really be a Christmas miracle!), the DLC is purely cosmetic items – a handful of shield and armor skins to pimp out the father-son duo. Santa Monica Studios released them previously in one form or another, so they aren’t all that new either.

Here’s the official blurb for what Santa Monica Studios is calling the God of War Holiday 2019 Giveaway:

Happy holidays! If you missed out on this legendary content when God of War originally launched, Santa Monica Studio is giving away the following items for a limited time. Once downloaded, these items will be available in-game in your Armor and Weapons tab menu to customize Kratos and Atreus. If you are beginning a new game, these items will be available to customize at the start of the Deer hunt.

And, the full God of War armor/shield skins list offered in the DLC:

• Death’s Vow Armor Sets for Kratos and Atreus
• Exile’s Guardian Shield Skin
• Buckler of the Forge Shield Skin
• Shining Elven Soul-Shield Skin
• Dökkenshieldr Shield Skin

To download, visit the PlayStation Store in your respective region and become glossy-eyed over that tantalizing “free” labeling. The items are available until Jan. 6 at 12 am PT.

God of War itself is also discounted to under $15 as part of PlayStation’s Holiday Sale. With countless accolades and an embarrassingly long list of Game of the Year awards, you can’t go wrong at that price.

And, if you didn’t hear, we very nearly missed out of Kratos’ iconic “Boy.”
